A new energy efficiency action has been added to our strategy to help reduce the environmental impact of production.
Alongside the choice of photovoltaics, which currently covers about 40 percent of the company’s needs, and the recent evolution of our electropolishing plant to an all-electric power supply, we have decided to abandon the use of gas even for heating the entire plant and replace it with an electrically powered heat pump system.
In this way, all company premises, from the production area to the logistics-directional area, will be heated with sustainable technology that is functional to decarbonization challenge.
We have calculated that with this efficiency action we will save about 5,000 cubic meters of gas annually, corresponding to 8.5 tons of CO2 not released into the atmosphere.
A piece certainly, but one that fits significantly into a broader sustainability program. The advantage of choosing heat pumps is enhanced by integration with renewable energy provided by photovoltaic panels. In this regard, the plant expansion project will allow us to double the number of photovoltaic modules, ensuring that we maintain and indeed increase the share of self-consumption.
A further advantage of choosing heat pumps concerns the well-being of the working environment. In fact, this system offers the possibility of reversible air conditioning: it heats indoor space during winter and cools it in summer.
